Itinerary
We will pick you up in Cusco and drive to the Moon Temple area on the outskirts of the city.
There, youβll meet your local guide and the Qβeros shamanic healer. You can leave your luggage safely in the vehicle while we do this first activity. Weβll explore the surroundings of the Moon Temple, and depending on your energy and the weather, you can take a gentle walk with your guide and shaman as they explain the Inca sites found in this area.
Weβll have a short introductory ceremony followed by a personal coca-leaf oracle reading. This is a moment for you to ask anything you wish β about your personal life, love, health, work, or anything else β and your shaman will offer spiritual guidance.
Once we finish, weβll drive back to the center of Cusco so you can check in at your hotel and then rest or explore the town at your own pace.
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will pick you up and youβll drive to the South Valley, a beautiful area that is much less touristy. Along the way, you will make several stops. One of them is the pre-Inca site of Pikillacta from the Wari culture, where you can enjoy a short walk with your shaman and guide while they explain the history of the place.
You will also visit small villages such as Huasao, known for its witches and local magic traditions. The people there also perform ceremonies, although they are not Qβeros shamans like the ones we work with. Here you can walk around, get to know the village, and your guide will tell you more about their way of life. You will also see the beautiful Huacarpay lagoon.
You will then enjoy a box lunch with your guide and shaman before driving back to Cusco, where you will have the rest of the day free.
Get ready for an exciting adventure! We’ll pick you up at 06:00 am in a private van and head to the starting point of our hike at the base of the magnificent Ausangate Mountain. Our journey kicks off in Upispampa, where we’ll trek through remote villages and cross streams until we reach the cozy town of Upis, where we’ll spend the night. Our skilled cook will prepare a delicious lunch for you. Afterward, you can decide to hike to Upis Lake, a scenic two-hour trek. There, you’ll have the chance to witness a stunning starry night that will stay with you for a lifetime.
An Andean shaman from Q’eros will accompany us during this trek and perform various Andean ceremonies with us. Today, we will partake in a blessing ceremony to ask for permission from the mountains and set an intention for this adventure. This unique experience adds a spiritual dimension to our journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Ausangate.
Today, our hiking adventure continues, and our Andean Shaman will guide us through cleansing ceremonies surrounded by the sacred mountains. Rise and shine at 05:00 am to the aroma of coca tea or coffee delivered to your tent. A delicious breakfast awaits, fueling you for the day ahead. We’ll set off in the morning, ascending to Arapa Pass (4968m). Along the way, you’ll encounter local farmers, alpacas, and the striking Ausangate snow-capped peak. Our knowledgeable guide will share insights about the flora, fauna, and landscape. If luck is on our side, we may spot condors, chinchillas, and vicuΓ±as.
Prepare to be mesmerized by colorful lakes and our campsite at Puca Cocha, surrounded by majestic mountains and hanging glaciers. Take a moment to visit the lake, home to various bird species. Our Andean Shaman will impart ancestral knowledge from Inca times. As night falls, savor dinner at our campsite, concluding another day of exploration in the heart of nature.
Today brings a challenge as we ascend the Puca Cocha pass (5051m/16,572ft), surrounded by vibrant mountains. Take in the breathtaking views of Mount Ausangate and the colorful glacier lakes. Traverse the untouched Red Mountain valley, where llamas graze amidst vivid hues. Our professional Andean cook prepares a rejuvenating lunch, marking the beginning of our two-day adventure to Rainbow Mountain.
After the meal, we’ll conquer the Warmi Saya pass (4500m/14,764ft), catching a tantalizing glimpse of the distant Rainbow Mountain. Descending, we’ll circle the lake and continue on Peruvian flat terrain until we reach our campsite. This special location will be the setting for the powerful Karpay ceremony of initiation, connecting us with Mother Earth and the sacred mountains. Later, we’ll gather at the campsite for a well-deserved dinner.
Today is the long-awaited day. We will gently wake you at 6:00 a.m. with a warm cup of coca tea delivered directly to your tent. Shortly after, we will begin a 45-minute hike to Rainbow Mountain.
Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the area at your own pace and capture the stunning landscapes with your camera.Β
If time and energy allow, we will continue to the impressive Red Valley, located about a 30-minute walk from Rainbow Mountain. During the day, our Andean shaman will conduct a traditional offering ceremony focused on gratitude and connection with nature. Depending on the weather, the shaman and guide will determine the most suitable location for the ceremony.
Afterward, we will descend and return by private transportation to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 3:00 p.m., carrying unforgettable memories of this special experience.
Today marks the last day of our adventure. Depending on your flight time and personal schedule, you have the option to enjoy some free time. We will arrange transportation to take you to the airport for your journey home. Feliz viaje!

Choosing the perfect time for your Ausangate Trek is like picking the right seasoning for a dishβit depends on your flavor. If you’re all about clear skies and uninterrupted mountain views, then the dry season from May to September is your sweet spot. Picture sunny days, cool nights, and landscapes that will make your heart skip a beat.
Now, if you’re the type who loves a bit of adventure in every raindrop, the wet season from October to April might be your calling. Sure, there’s a chance of rain, but that means the trails come alive with lush greenery, painting a vibrant canvas for your journey.
Here’s the breakdown:
May to September (Dry Season): It’s like nature’s blockbuster season. Expect clear skies, comfortable trekking conditions, and postcard-perfect views. Daytime adventures and cozy nights under the stars await.
October to April (Wet Season): This is when Mother Nature decides to water her garden. Yes, there might be rain, but the payoff is a landscape that bursts with life. The trails might get a bit slippery, but who said a little mud wasn’t part of the adventure?
Absolutely, altitude is a crucial factor on the Ausangate Trek, with some passes reaching over 17,000 feet (5,182 meters). Here’s a quick rundown:
Acclimatization Matters: Spend a few days in Cusco before the trek to acclimate to the altitude.
Know the Symptoms: Familiarize yourself with signs of altitude sickness, like headaches and nausea.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Even if you don’t feel thirsty, stay hydrated to aid acclimatization.
Pace Yourself: The trek isn’t a race; take it slow for a safer and more enjoyable experience.
Consider Medication: Consult a professional about altitude sickness medication if needed.
Emergency Plans: Tour operators usually have protocols in case of severe altitude sickness; be aware of them.
Being mindful of altitude considerations adds a layer of preparation to your trek. It’s not just about the physical challenge; it’s about respecting the power of high-altitude environments and ensuring your safety and well-being throughout the adventure.
